Path and the Cliff (2012)
 Schmincke Primacryl Acrylic on Linen
76.5 x 76cm
"I worked amongst the ‘chainsaw’ noise of the crashing waves.

I worked in wind, rain and freezing cold

as well as the hottest of summer days.

The Island offered ...

these landscapes and ...

expressive fluid marks that cities may not evoke.

And it scared me."

I ...

capture the essence of the landscape

- the folds of rolling earth,

the frightening vertiginous vistas,

the rugged carved cliff edges

and the

incredible architectural formations.

I was shown a photograph

of the Pinnacles

and was immediately struck

by the architectural qualities

of the massive molten formations

of the alien landscape”

I drove past the gallery
and the colour and shape of the Pinnacles
turned my face.
They're deeply enticing, those coloured
rocky
impositions. Later I noticed,
those colours aren't even made up.
Everyone can be found in the geological make up here.
